These Four Walls brought their nearly two-decade rock pedigree home to Auckland this week, headlining a stacked bill at Big Fan. Support came from WOMAN and Cry Wolf, each bringing their own flavour of energy and chaos to the night. Below is a look back at all three sets, paired with a gallery of photos from the show.

WOMAN hit the stage as a five-piece built around a ferocious female vocalist and from the first note it was clear this was punk done right — punchy, dynamic, and dripping with the kind of anger and rebellion the genre demands.

Her top said it best: FIGHT ME, emblazoned right across the chest. Strong backing vocals gave the songs real heft, and the energy never let up. At one point she left the stage entirely, throwing herself flat on the floor to keep singing from there. Behind her, the rest of the band — all men, all uniformed in matching pink shirts — held it down with chemistry that spilled into the between-song banter, including some good-natured ribbing about a drummer who apparently can’t count.

Chaotic, committed, and exactly what a punk set should be.

Cry Wolf — Kevin Ashby on vocals and guitar, Josh Dillner on lead guitar, Nick Raven on bass, and James Porteous on drums — brought a wall of thundering bass and razor-sharp guitar riffs, the kind of rhythm section you feel in your chest before the melody even registers.

A surprise highlight came with a Linkin Park’s cover Faint, brought to life with a guest vocalist sharing the mic. The lead vocals sat a touch low in the mix, but the harmonies more than made up for it, weaving tightly through the heavier moments.

By the second half of the set the band had the whole room moshing — and that’s where the night took a literal hit for me: a mosher collided into me mid-shot, sending my lens crashing to the concrete.

Closing out the night, These Four Walls played like the seasoned road warriors they are — nearly two decades into a career built on great riffs, soaring vocals, and tight, polished harmonies. Originally formed in Auckland and now based on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the band relocated to Australia in 2013. Tonight singer Steve Gibb made it clear how good it felt to be back, telling the crowd it was great to be home to catch up with family and friends.

The set was smooth, slick, and effortlessly confident, with vocals soaring over down-tuned guitars and the bass player adding real weight to the backing vocals. The biggest surprise of the night came when Gibb stripped it all back for a solo rendition of Different Spaces — just him and his guitar, a beautiful and unexpected change of pace against the band’s usual heavier sound, and a fitting, intimate way to close out the evening.
