On Thursday we were in Memphis, Tennessee to check out some music for the evening.
We first stopped at King’s Palace Cafe Patio and saw Cowboy Neal and the Real Deal Band. Cowboy Neal leads the quartet with his guitar. The pipe that he occasionally picks up seems to be part of his stage persona. Some great blues, raw in the delivery but authentic and really enjoyable.
Mary Hinton Hayes joined the band in their second set to add her soulful voice to the mix and provide a different sound and selection of songs to the repertoire.
Later we went to Blues City Cafe and caught a set of Blind Mississippi Morris. Morris sat in his chair with his selection of mouth harps hanging from his belt, ready to play at a moment. Morris was supported by a highly skilled guitarist, bassist and drummer.
