Drag Queen Carnival Circus

The Drag Carnival Circus came to town last night and set up at Phoenix Venue on K’ Road. A night out with Leonie and her camera.

When arriving I was welcomed by Lady Armilade, the ring mistress herself. There was excitement in the air, guests were chatting and enjoying cocktails.

Lady Armilade gave a warm welcome to the audience and the circus kicked off with Carla Monrowe. Beautiful, long red hair and even longer, beautiful legs! Great start of the night. Next up was drag king Tony Chestnut. Tony certainly got the laughs with his clever act.

Just like at any good circus the audience is dragged in to the show. Molly Poppinz hosted a dance competition. The boys took it away.

Next to enter the ring was Thee MF Moment. Exciting to see how gracefully she moves on those red high heeled leather boots, mind boggling.

Then the curtains opened for one of New Zealand’s most famous drag kings, Hugo Grrrl, a fabulous drag king that I’ve been waiting to see for a long time. Hugo certainly didn’t disappoint. Harlequin costume, great makeup, great performance. Certainly a royal performance fit for all kings, queens and commoners.

I courtesy to Lady Armilade, a wonderfully gentle, eloquent queen, as was her act. Classy and a little cheeky at times. Her lady-in-waiting chose well with the selection of the pink boots and lime dress.

Last but not least, the show stopper was Molly Poppinz. Molly is an Australian queen, a contestant in RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, 2022. She may have placed 4th in that competition but tonight she certainly was a winner.

Many thanks to all you wonderful kings and queens.
